On paying attention

A short note on making room for an unfinished thought.

Not every thought needs to become an output immediately. Some need an afternoon, a second reading, or a walk with no recording device.

I have been trying to leave a little more space between encountering an idea and deciding what I think about it. That space is uncomfortable. It is also where the interesting questions tend to appear.

Attention is easier to promise than to practise.

For now, the practice is simple: read fewer things at once, keep a notebook close, and let a few questions remain unanswered.
